Another GREAT weekend!!

After a brief stint in Romulus, MI I returned to NYC on Saturday morning. Saturday night was a great time catching up with friends....met up with Ripun, Vishen, Mike Remyn, Jen Starkey, Fletch, Sanela, Rickesh and Jim. Crazy dancing at BABEL until the wee hours of the morning (only 4 more days of dancing!!).

Yesterday was lunch at the Arab cafe with Paul, Ashlee, and Dana followed by dinner at Grand Szeuchwan with Simi and Jan. This was followed by the New Moon Festival with Dana and ended the night with a great time at The OtherRoom with Chris White, Paul, Ashlee, Dana and our great new friends Abdullah and Leo.

What a great weekend...jam packed full of craziness and fun...surgery on Friday so I have to enjoy it all while I can...today I think I'm going for a NICE LONG WALK :)

Great Weekend...and one more week of walking!!

Wow! What an amazing weekend!! Friday night dinner and shopping with the girls....then a crazy night at Casbah Rouge (my favorite Moroccan place in Manhattan) with Trent, Saturday dancing until 4:00 AM at Leila El Sharq(my favorite Egyptian place in Queens) with amazing live music, and Sunday night ANOTHER night at Leila El Sharq(no dancing this time, just hanging out with a nice new egyptian friend).

Please note the excessive Arab theme for the weekend- It has been 4 months since I have visited an Arab country (this is the longest I have gone in 3 years without visiting an Arab country) so I guess I needed a little "cultural immersion".

Oh..and in other news..I moved my surgery to FEBRUARY 3rd!! One more week of walking!! Ohh...this makes me soo happy....one more weekend of crazy dancing :)

Mabrouk!!

Paradise Now just won the award for best foreign language film at the Golden Globes. This was such an incredible film that really dove into the heart of the human emotions and personal truths of the Palestine-Israel conflict. It is so great to see a film which is so relevant in the world today being awarded. The director of the film Hany Abu-Assad made a statement at the ceremony tonight about how he felt honored to be able to bring the struggle of the Palestinian poeple to the Hollywood screen. Mabrouk ya Hany, Mabrouk!!

The Final Countdown :)

I finally set my surgery date today- January 27th. After being denied health insurance because I need medical care (note the irony in this) I have no choice but to do the surgery here in New York, and to do it one foot at a time. That means I have 16 days to enjoy the use of my two feet as much as I possibly can. It also means 16 days of intensive weightlifting to get myself ready for the messy debaucle of hauling myself around on crutches for 3-4 months. (I am going to be able to win a mean arm-wrestling competition after this.)

Sigh...I am not quite sure what this is going to be like. The optimist in me likes to think kind of fun...like a big adventure....I am viewing it as a bit of a sociological experiment- How helpful are New Yorkers REALLY? Just how handicap accessible is the subway system? My friends say the novelty of it will wear off after a few days...I am just hoping it lasts at least a few weeks :)
