The Final Countdown :)

I finally set my surgery date today- January 27th. After being denied health insurance because I need medical care (note the irony in this) I have no choice but to do the surgery here in New York, and to do it one foot at a time. That means I have 16 days to enjoy the use of my two feet as much as I possibly can. It also means 16 days of intensive weightlifting to get myself ready for the messy debaucle of hauling myself around on crutches for 3-4 months. (I am going to be able to win a mean arm-wrestling competition after this.)

Sigh...I am not quite sure what this is going to be like. The optimist in me likes to think kind of fun...like a big adventure....I am viewing it as a bit of a sociological experiment- How helpful are New Yorkers REALLY? Just how handicap accessible is the subway system? My friends say the novelty of it will wear off after a few days...I am just hoping it lasts at least a few weeks :)

good luck suzanne!

you'll do do great on crutches!

however, i'd just give up on walking all together and ride around NYC in a shiny Rascal scooter... think about it.

Suzy, good luck and hang in there... always darkest hour before the dawn.

On the bright side you can use those crutches as weapons... people better think twice before messing with you now. :)

Good luck, Suzanne! We'll see you on the other side, and you'll be running again before you know it. I guess one plus is that you'll be able to blog more. Keep smiling :)

Europe - The final countdown Lyrics

We're leaving together
but still it's farewell
and maybe we'll come back,
to earth, who can tell?

I guess there is no one to blame
we're leaving ground (leaving ground)
will things ever be the same again?
It's the final countdown.

The final countdown.

Oh, We're heading for Venus
and still we stand tall
cause maybe they've seen us
and welcome us all
with so many light years to go
and things to be found (to be found)
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so
It's the final countdown.

The final countdown.

The final countdown (final countdown).

oh...oh

The final countdown.

oh...oh

It's the final countdown.

The final countdown.

The final countdown. (final countdown)

It's the final countdown
we're leaving together
the final countdown
we'll all miss her so
It's the final countdown (final countdown)
oh, it's the final countdown.

Interesting. Your surgery blog is immediately followed by the blog about the transit strike. Good thing they don't coincide any more than that!

Good luck Suzanne!

Yeah, I'm with Digidy on that one- just smack people if they don't get out of your way. Or just smack them because you feel like it. I'm really sorry about the heath insurance issue. I always thought it was ri-freaking-diculous that people can't get heath insurance if they have a preexisting condition.

I'm thinking of you! I know you'll do just fine- you're one tough cookie.

No hugs and kisses from me ... just a good old fashioned - ask God for strength and see what he gives you. We both know what this means :)

Miss you ... two weeks and counting.

Dear Suzy.. wish you the best in this journey experience treatment however u wanna call it, and hang in there.. kick the ass of those bastards that are on ur way... and I'm sure u will manage well, u've always shown ur strenghts in the times where it's more needed, and I'm sure this won't be an exception.. I'm sending u a lot of energy for that.. take much care.. and I definitely don't like health insurance people :( mean people :(. ciaus

another plus is you can actually ask people for help, a great way to start a conversation with a cute guy huh?!
i really wish i could come visit you.
maybe you could get colored crutches? so they can match your clothes? that''ll make the novelty last a little longer - like every time you try a different color

i love ya hon - i am sure you'll get through this

Make a career out of your time on cruches...
- Tour NYC with wealthy cute guys on cruches
- Write a special tourist guide NY on cruches
- Write a chapter for NFT New York specializing on tips for the periodically handicapped New Yorker
- Take a camera with you to take pics of all the obstacles you face and consult shops, restaurants,... on how to make their establishment more accessible for people on cruches / in wheelchairs...

I'm sure you'll find more stuff like that...
Hugs and all the best for the operations!

This is just the universe telling you to slow down for your own good.

If it makes you feel better, I am certain you are moving faster with crutches than I am without :)

Sending you light...
